SOUTH PORTLAND - Cheryl S. Cook, 62, of South Portland, died unexpectedly Thursday June 6, 2012, in South Portland. She was born In Portland on January 1, 1950 a daughter of Leon J. and Caroline A. Frost Pinkos. Cheryl attended St. Dominic's Grammar School and she attended Cathedral High School. Cheryl was currently working at Maine Medical Center as a technician in the sterlization department. She had been employed with them for over 30 years. She was a longtime employee at DiMillo's Restaurant. She married Robinson Cook, III on August 1, 1987 at St. Joseph's Church in Portland. He predeceased her on July 24, 2007. Family was a large part of her life. She was very close to her mother and spent a great deal of time with her. She was a loving mother, grandmother and a very proud great grandmother. Cheryl enjoyed gardening and kept a spotless house. She loved the beach and riding horses. She was a former communicant of St. Louis Church in Portland. Survivors include her mother, Caroline Bowring of South Portland; a daughter, Tamara Jean Asali and her husband Andrew of Windham; a son, Gary L. Thayer, Jr. of Old Orchard Beach; two sisters, Lorraine Macchio and her husband Frank of Florida, Pamela Dobey and her husband Keith of Florida; four grandchildren, Andrew Asali, Anecia Trickey, Brianna Thayer, Ryan Thayer; two great grandchildren, Kole and Sophia. Visiting hours will be held 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, June 10th at Conroy-Tully Crawford South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. Prayers will be recited Monday, June 11th, at 8:15 a.m. at the funeral home followed by a 9:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph's Church, 673 Stevens Ave., Portland. Burial will be in Brooklawn Memorial Park, Portland.
