PORTLAND - Frances "Trixie" Cecilia Campbell, 86, of Portland, died on March 8, 2014, at the Barron Center. She was born in Portland, a daughter of William P. and Martina Bulger McDonald. She attended local schools, graduating from Cathedral High School in 1944. Frances married Jack Campbell in 1947. Together they raised their family of five children. She volunteered at the Baron Center for over 40 years, focusing on patient recreation. Frances, better known as Mom, Fran, Frannie, Gram, Grammie Franie and Trixie was more than just volunteer at the Baron Center... she was an ambassador of smiles. She went above and beyond to bring joy and laughter to anyone who crossed her path. She was known to dress up in costumes and visit patients rooms and you wouldn't be surprised to see her dancing down the hallways with nurses, visitors, or anyone who was willing to follow her lead. She was known for her Irish ditties and silly rhymes and she loved playing tricks to make everyone laugh (hence the name Trixie!) She loved all her family fiercely... and she loved dogs, the BIGGER the better! If a dog entered the room she would be on the floor in seconds to greet them. She lived her life for others, always finding a way to give back and she instilled that value in her children and grandchildren. Her spirit was infectious. She was a larger-than-life personality in a very little body, who could out jitterbug you any day of the week. She was a force and a gift to all who were honored enough to know and love her. Frances was predeceased by her parents, five beloved siblings, and husband Jack. She is survived by a daughter, Linda Newbegin and husband Wayne, of Standish; four sons, William E. and wife Misty, of Buxton, John R. and wife Lise, of Portland, Gregory L. and wife Kathy, of Littleton, and Paul and wife Sheila, of Westbrook; seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. Visiting hours will be held on Monday, at the Conroy-Tully Crawford South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. 1. My Aunt Frances never made me like a niece, she made me feel like one of her children. In her presence, I knew I was loved, unconditionally. Her home was my home. Aunt Frances, Uncle Jack and my cousins were a big part of my childhood, and my memories are full of love and fun. I loved my Aunt Frances dearly. When we visited, it seems like our mothers could talk FOREVER! She had the gift of gab, with nary a bit of blarney! You were blessed!! Peg
