South Portland - Ellen J. Lombardi, 97, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 25, 2021, at Maine Medical Center with her family by her side. Ellen was born on February 6, 1924, in South Portland, daughter of the late Michael and Bridget (Delia) Feeney. She was a parishioner of St. Dominic's Church and Holy Cross Church. She was the third of six children. After graduating from Cathedral High School, class of 1941, Ellen went on to work as an administrator at Bausch & Lomb for many years. After World War II, while attending a dance with friends, Ellen met the love of her life, Philip Thomas Lombardi. The two married on September 23, 1950 at St. Dominic's Church. They loved dancing together, going to The Pier at Old Orchard Beach where the big bands played, and attending many dances at the Elks Lodge and Italian Heritage Center. Together they raised their three children in South Portland. Phil and Ellen enjoyed traveling to many places including Italy, California, Las Vegas, and driving up and down the coast of Maine. One of Ellen's many pleasures was entertaining and cooking for family, friends, and her beloved grandchildren at their cottage on Crystal Lake. Her life's work was her love and devotion to her family. She loved life and had the ability to make people around her feel so good. Ellen's family will always remember her unwavering positive outlook. She chose to remember the happy times and to fill her life with love, laughter, and dancing. Ellen was predeceased by her beloved husband of 62 years, Philip Lombardi Sr.; and four siblings, Mary Morais, Patrick J. Feeney, Peter J. Feeney, and James Feeney. She is survived by two daughters, Cynthia Jean Cote and husband Marc of Westbrook, Karen Ellen Wyman and husband Gregory of South Portland; a son, Philip Thomas Lombardi Jr. and wife Nancy of Windham; sister, Katherine Conroy and husband Frederick of MA; sister-in-law, Patricia Feeney; many nieces and nephews; eight grandchildren; 2 great-granddaughters and one on the way. Visiting hours will be held from 4:00PM-7:00PM on Tuesday, March 30, 2021, at the Conroy-Tully Walker South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. Prayers will be recited in the chapel at 9:15AM on Wednesday, March 31, 2021, followed by a 10:00AM Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Cross Church, 124 Cottage Road, South Portland. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, South Portland.
