Rita Jeannette Lachance

Portland - Rita J. Lachance, 94, passed away at St. Joseph's Rehabilitation and Residence in Portland on August 13, 2018. Born on June 10, 1924, and raised in Lewiston, she was the daughter of the late Victor and Alice Jalbert. Happily married to Lionel Lachance, they adopted two children, Richard and Marlene. After Lionel's untimely death, she raised her children in Westbrook and then moved back to Lewiston where she worked at Pecks Department Store and finished her career at Bates College. After retiring, with the gracious help of Sister Carol Lachance, R.S.M, Rita was able to move to Deering Pavilion in Portland where she spent many happy years. She is predeceased by her daughter, Marlene. Rita is survived by her son, Richard; niece, Sister Carol Lachance, R.S.M, who has provided great support over the years; two grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson and several other nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11AM on Thursday, August 23, 2018 at St. Peter's Basilica in the Upper Church, 122 Ash Street, Lewiston. Interment will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery, Lewiston. Arrangements are under the direction of the Conroy-Tully Walker Funeral Home of Portland.
