Cumberland- Philip R. Hughes, 78, of Orchard Road, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, August 15, 2018 at his home.
Philip was born in Chicago, IL on April 6, 1940 the son of the late George and June (Van Arkle) Hughes. Philip graduated from Trinity College with his BA and then earned his MBA and PhD. from Boston University.
On June 13, 1964 Philip married the love of his life Ann D. Hughes.
Philip taught at multiple universities over the years including Northeastern University, Suffolk University, Harvard, and Endicott College just to name a few. His 30+ year teaching career ended with his retirement in 1998.
In his spare time, Philip enjoyed writing poetry and short stories not only for his own enjoyment but also for some small publications. We was well traveled, together he and Ann visited over 30 different countries. He had a passion for antiques, movies, music, and was a veracious reader of anything from biographies to poetry to political interests.
Philip will be remembered by family and friends as a funny, kind, intellectual who enjoyed a good conversation over dinner and adventurous travel.
Philip was predeceased by his wife of 51 years, Ann D. Hughes in 2015. He is survived by his daughter Alexandra Hughes of Cumberland.
