Portland - Richard "Dick" P. Curtis, 69, died suddenly on Wednesday, February 13, 2019. Dick was born on August 10, 1949, in Concord, NH, the son of the late Robert L. and Pauline (Sargent) Curtis. He grew up in Warner and moved to Pembroke after middle school. Dick was a bright young man who attended Pembroke Academy where he earned numerous academic awards. He graduated Pembroke Academy in 1967 and went on to study at Cornell University where he received his Bachelor's degree in Architecture. Dick entered the architecture field after graduating college and worked for 47 years. He always said he would never retire; he loved his job too much. Dick was a distinguished and highly accomplished architect. Throughout his years, he worked on many buildings in New England, especially enjoying elderly and low-income housing. He was proud to be a part of the redesign of the South Portland Fire Station to return some of the classic design. History and research were passions of Dick's, which was prevalent in his career as well as the ancestry research he performed. He enjoyed watching the Patriots and Green Bay Packers with family, playing mini-golf and golf, as well as fishing and being a self-taught carpenter. Above all, Dick was proud to be a father and a "Grampie". Dick is survived by his two daughters, Elizabeth Sherburne and her husband James of Canterbury, NH; Aimee Towle and her husband Bryan of Dover, NH; a brother, Peter Curtis of Dover, NH; his beloved 6 grandchildren; Jean-Marc Vachon, whom he thought of as a son; and lifelong friend Christie Simbari. Visiting hours will be held from 2:00PM-4:00PM on Saturday, February 23, 2019, at the Conroy-Tully Walker Funeral Home, 172 State Street, Portland ME. A celebration of Dick's life will follow at 4:00PM at the funeral home.   4. So sorry to hear of Dick’s passing. I worked briefly with Dick in the early ’70’s and admired his work ethnic and talent. Later in the ’80’s Dick was kind enough to design the second floor of my home. A thoughtful and kind gentlemen. I’m sorry I did not keep in touch, but am proud to have known him. Peggy Janusz
