Marblehead, Ma, and Cape Coral, Fl - Sharon Lee (Gallagher) Conners, formerly of Saugus, MA, 76, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family at their beloved summer home in Maine on Monday, August 10th.
The remarkable life of Sharon began on September 7, 1943. She was born to the late Leo and Margaret (Mahoney) Gallagher and was raised in Norwood, MA. An only child, Sharon's family moved to Marblehead, MA where she graduated from High School in 1961. Shortly thereafter, she met Frank R. "Capt. Foley" Conners. Little did they know meeting each other would be the beginning of a 45-year marriage built on the foundations of family, faith and love. Sharon and Frank were married in 1965 in Malden, MA and eventually moved to Saugus to raise their family. As their children were growing up, Sharon worked as a professional florist. She was a naturally artistic person who excelled in floral design. There wasn't a flower that she couldn't identify and loved to talk about them. Over the years, Sharon was proud to create beautiful arrangements for various family events, the kids would look forward to the Christmas wreaths for the front doors every year. Her daughter's wedding will always be extra special as she designed the floral arraignments for the wedding, it was her special way to express her love. Her creative side didn't stop with flowers though. She also excelled in painting, drawing, and photography of her family, nature and anything beautiful that caught her eye. Several of her photographs have been enlarged and decorate her home to this day, with visitors and friends commenting on their beauty on a regular basis.
In the mid 1980's, the couple decided to move to Florida. While in Florida, Sharon worked as a manager for Luxury Resorts and quickly developed a wonderful life surrounded by family and friends. She loved the sunrises and sunsets, the beaches, and the naturally beautiful surroundings of Florida. When she wasn't enjoying everything Florida had to offer, she could find herself in Casco, Maine, eating her favorite lobster rolls, watching the birds, enjoying boat rides with the family and watching the sun set on Sebago Lake.
Sharon was a naturally generous person - She often donated her time to the Salvation Army and would research non-profit organizations extensively to ensure her donations were truly going to help people in need. However, the greatest joy of her life was spending time with her family. Family was everything to Sharon. Affectionately referred to as "Camp Chaos", Sharon was happiest when her entire family was together. It didn't matter where, it didn't matter when, it's what made her happy and feel complete, and she ensured that those core values were passed down to her children. She was an unbelievably loving and supportive mother, but her pride and joy were her 10 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Known as "Mum" or "Grami", Sharon had an immense amount of love and pride for her grandchildren. She would do whatever she could to support them, from attending various events to just being a source of love - her grandchildren were everything to her. She was so proud of each of them.
Sharon was predeceased by her beloved husband, Frank R. "Capt. Foley" Conners in 2010.
She is survived by her children: Michael Conners and wife Donna of Parkland, FL, Sean Conners and fiance Darien Foley of Gloucester, Julie Sumner of Cape Coral, FL, and Shannon Burke and husband Rob of Saugus. She was the beloved Mum/Grami to Eric, Jessica, Tessia, Riley, Ryan, William, Kyle, Patrick, Matthew and Gianna. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Hadley and Amelia.
An 11:00AM Mass of Christian Burial and a celebration of Sharon's life will be held on Thursday, August 20, 2020, at the Blessed Sacrament Church, 14 Summer Street, Saugus, MA. Arrangements are under the direction of the Conroy-Tully Walker Funeral Home of Portland, ME.
In lieu of flowers, those desiring, may make a memorial contribution to Camp Sunshine, Casco, ME or Beacon Hospice Care, Auburn ME
