Sung R. Kim

South Portland- Sung R. Kim, 59, of Derby Road died unexpectedly of natural causes on Thursday, April 29, 2021 at his home. Sung was born in Seoul, Korea on July 20, 1961, the son of the late Nan Yong Kim and Sun Ok (Cho) Kim. He was educated in Korean schools. He then served in the Korean Army for several years. In November of 1986, Sung married Jung H. Kim in Korea, on July 25, 1987 Sung and Jung immigrated to the United States and then made their home and raised their family in South Portland, Maine. After arriving in the United States, Sung worked as a chef in Georgia, and Boston, MA. He then went to work for Barber Foods in the maintenance department, a position he held for more than 10 years. Sung loved being outside, taking long walks and enjoyed comics. He was an excellent cook and loved cooking for his family, especially his wife and children. Sung is survived by his wife, Jung Kim of South Portland; a son, Joshua Kim of South Portland; a daughter, Jessica Kim of TX; four sisters, Sun and her husband, Stephen Betters of AL, Sang Kim of Korea, Yun Kim and her husband Dae Jung of Korea, and Myung Hong and her husband, Stephen Hong of GA; many nieces and nephews. At the family's request all services will be private. Arrangements are under the direction of the Conroy-Tully Walker Funeral Home, 1024 Broadway, South Portland, ME.
