Do Not Stand At My Grave and Weep
Do not stand at my grave and weep;
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there, I did not die.
-Hopi Prayer
After The Dazzle of Day
After the dazzle of day is gone
Only the dark night shows to my eyes the stars;
After the clangor of organ majestic or chorus or
perfect band
Silent athwart my soul moves the symphony
true.
-Walt Whitman
Turn Again to Life
If I should die and leave you here a while,
Be not like others sore undone,
Who keep long vigil by the silent dust.
For my sake turn again to life and smile,
Nerving thy heart and trembling hand to do
Something to comfort other hearts than thine.
Complete these dear unfinished tasks of mine
And I perchance may therein comfort you.

Dan loved people and always tried to make people laugh and let loose. His free spirit inspired many fun times together and I have so many memories of Dan- most too fun to share here, but they will remain forever in my heart. My condolences go out to Dan’s family and to all the friends whose lives Dan has touched along the way.

Dan is fondly remembered by Michael and I as a bright young man who loved his family and friends. His spirit and dignity remains — he loved life and people. He is at peace and serene.

Dan- my poker partner in crime. I’ve been devastated since learning of your passing and you will be missed more than you know and forever remembered among all those you touched. Those around you were familiar with your outgoing and social side, but few experienced the loyal, genuine and empathetic and those of us that did are better people for it! To the Cross Family, know that you all are in our thoughts and I’m sorry for your loss. Rest in peace my friend! “Never forgotten, Forever missed”
– Justin DeLauri

I just found out about this today when I ran into Jeff Mackey from the Y. I always enjoyed working with Dan at the Y. He enjoyed life to the fullest & was fun to be around. I still have a bike he sold me when he was moving to CA.. We kept in touch off & on. So sad to hear of his passing at such a young age..

Dan and I crossed paths at a time when we were both struggling, and his good humor and lighthearted approach to life really brought a little joy and hope into my life at a time when I felt totally hopeless. He was a good guy and I am saddened to learn of his passing, but know his spirit lives on.

I played football with Dan at NHS and I remember he was my one teammate that pushed me to be better everyday. He wouldn’t settle for anything less with his tough-as-nails mentality. Dan will be missed and I send my deepest condolences to your family.
