Kim Britt Watson (nee Mercier) peacefully passed away Thursday, May 20, 2021, from complications due to pancreatic dysfunction at Gosnell Memorial Hospice Home in Scarborough, Maine. Mrs. Watson had just turned sixty years old on April 11. Kim was born in Bangor, Maine, in 1961, and resided in nearby Pittsfield until the age of two when her father returned to the U.S. Army as a career officer. As an army brat, Kim had the distinct privilege of living in Texas, Germany, Virginia, California, Nebraska, and Arizona. While in junior high school, Kim participated summers at the rigorous Outward Bound School on the coast of Maine and as a pampered camper at Wyonegonic Camps in Denmark, Maine (the oldest continuously operated girls' camp in the U.S.). In high school, she went on to further distinguish herself by becoming a nationally-ranked oarswoman at T.C. Williams High School in Alexandria, Virginia, where her crew team won first place in the interscholastic national championship her junior year. Kim attended Towson University in Maryland and Atlantic Baptist Bible College in Virginia. Kim married Andrew Watson of Florida. Later, Kim returned to her home state, where she lived in Cape Elizabeth and downtown Portland before finally settling in Biddeford where she resided for the duration of her life. A devout Christian, Kim had been a parishioner at several local churches in Biddeford, most recently attending the Grace Point Church there. Kim was predeceased by her father, Edmund Asa Mercier (b. Pittsfield, Maine) and stepfather, Keith Nelson (b. St. Lawrence, South Dakota); a brother, Kemp Brion Mercier (b. Bangor, Maine) and stepbrother, Scott Nelson (b. San Leandro, California); grandparents, Doris Katherine (nee Hume) (b. Castle Hill, Maine) and Tillmon Mitchell Richard (b. Cape Ball, New Brunswick, Canada); Lilian Martha (nee Morton) (b. Howland, Maine) and James Edward Mercier (b. Grand Lake Stream, Maine); and two uncles, Norris Malcolm Ashe, Jr. (b. Boston, Massachusetts) and Robert Olin Brown (b. Brewer, Maine). Kim is survived by her daughter, Brittany (nee Watson) Valenti of Daniel Island, South Carolina; mother, Myrna (nee Richard) Mercier Nelson of Houston, Texas; brother, Kevin Brent Mercier of Queretaro, Mexico; stepsiblings, Andrea (nee Nelson) Cormack and Jeffrey Nelson of Arlington, Texas, and Phillip Nelson of Jefferson, Ohio; two aunts, Arletta (nee Richard) Ashe of Providence, Rhode Island and Grace (nee Mercier) Brown of Westbrook, Maine; an uncle, Derek Richards of Castle Hill, Maine; and seven first cousins all of whom reside in and around New England. Memorial service is pending. Arrangements are under the direction of the Conroy-Tully Walker Funeral Homes. May she rest in eternal peace.
