Patricia was born in Portland, the daughter of the late Albert D. and Doris A. Hemingway. She attended local schools and graduated from Portland High School. Patricia met Richard Lafavore at a diner and the rest was history. Richard and Patricia were partners for many years and they married on July 31, 1986. She lived in various locations around Portland throughout her life, and eventually moved into the family home on Melbourne Street in Portland, where she lived for many years.
Patricia worked many jobs in Portland to support her family including Marty's Restaurant and Maine Medical Center. Patty served many people at Marty's Restaurant, those who worked in the area and those passing through the downtown area. She was a fixture at the restaurant and was known for her friendly smile and attentive service.
Patty was most notably known for her years of service working at Maine Medical Center in the coffee shop for 8 years, followed by the cafeteria for over 30 years, until her retirement in 2012. She was an integral part of the modernization of the current cafeteria, and was well known by Maine Medical Staff forging many life-long friendships.
She was considered the neighborhood mother and was always happy to watch the neighborhood children any time of day and open up her home to them. She enjoyed gardening, puzzles, walking, making popcorn for the birds and squirrels, and spending time with her grandchildren and family. Patty was an avid Red Sox fan as well.
Patty was predeceased by her husband, Richard Lafavore; siblings, Richard Hemingway and Dorothy Christ. She is survived by her two sons, David Hemingway and partner Donna Queen of Scarborough, and granddaughter Chloe Hemingway; Michael Hemingway and partner Judy Gilbert of Brunswick; and a sister, Lucille Raven.
Visiting hours celebrating Patricia's life will be held on Thursday, October 19, from 4-6PM, at the Conroy-Tully Walker Funeral Home, 172 State Street, Portland. A funeral service will immediately follow at the funeral home at 6pm. A private burial will be held at a later date at Calvary Cemetery, South Portland.
Prayers for your family
Many years she would come to my yard sales with her sons. She enjoyed the hunt of great deals at yard sales. My kind of woman. RIP 💔
I was Mrs. Lafavore’s electrician for many years. She was always a pleasure to work for and talk with.
She impressed me as a hard working woman with strong work ethics.
When talking about her son’s Michael and David it was obvious how proud she was of each of you!
Sorry for your loss
