Yarmouth - Paul F. O’Brien, 72, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at Maine Medical Center. Paul was born in Boston, MA on February 6, 1950, the son of the late Francis Henry and Catherine M. (Bongiovanni) O’Brien. On May 11, 1974 Paul married the love of his life Frances Marie “Fran” (Alongi) O’Brien at St. John the Baptist Parish in Quincy, MA. Paul and Fran both graduated in the class of 1968 from Quincy High School in Quincy, MA. Soon thereafter, their mutual friends Jimmy, Sandy, and Karen, played matchmakers and Paul and Fran started dating. Paul attended Vesper George School of Art while Fran attended Chamberlayne Junior college in Boston and they would commute to the city together. Following his time at Vesper George, Paul began his 50+ year career in telecommunications in the greater Boston area. In 1978, Paul started a new role in Portland, Maine with thoughts of career advancement and family planning. In 1983, Paul and Fran welcomed their first child Patricia “Patty” Frances O’Brien, and in 1987, they welcomed their son, Jeffrey “Jeff” Paul O’Brien. With these births, Paul realized his dream and passion of being a consummate family man, providing a safe and loving home for his family. Paul continued to pursue his passion for the arts through illustration with a focus on the study of life through portraiture. He continued to explore his interest in the human condition through his art as well as through avid reading of historical biographies, both serving as cathartic outlets. Paul was a steadfast family man, enjoying time with his wife, children, and goofing around with his grandsons. In addition to his parents, Paul was predeceased by three important male role models in his life: his grandfather Domenic Bongiovanni, and his two uncles; John “Jack” O’Brien and Domenic “Dom” Bongiovanni. He is survived by his loving wife, Fran O’Brien of Yarmouth; his son, Jeff O’Brien of Scarborough; his daughter, Patty O’Brien of NC; two grandsons, Finnegan E. O’Brien of WA and Charles H. O’Brien of Scarborough; a brother, Kenneth R. and his wife, Mary O’Brien of MA; several cousins and nieces. 7. Dear Fran and Family,
Our deepest sympathy and condolences to you all. We are so sorry Paul is gone.
I have some great memories of my time at Bell Atlantic and Verizon with Paul and the gang. Paul was great guy to be around; a great person, a great trainer, and he had a great sense of humor.
We had the good fortune to bump into each other a couple of years ago in Falmouth. Paul surprised me when he told me that he had retired but then returned to the job. As a matter of fact, he asked if I was interested in coming back to work at the phone company!
May you Rest in Peace, Paul.

Rest in peace, you will be missed by all those whose lives you touched.
