Portland - Reynold Murray Drews, 76, died on June 23, 2023, in Portland, Maine at Maine Medical Center, from pneumonia resulting from the coronavirus. Ren was a lifetime member of the Larchmont Yacht Club and an accomplished sailor. He was captain or crew member on many ocean sailboat races, from the Caribbean to the seas off of the coast of Maine. He was most at home on the water, with a following wind and the company of his great friends E.C. Hoffman, and Paul and Charlie Hoffmann. Ren was born in Larchmont, New York, to Reynold and Mary (Murray) Drews on September 13, 1946. He grew up in Larchmont and graduated from Lafayette College in 1969. He later received a master’s degree from the Muskie School at the University of Southern Maine. After college and several years in New York City in the advertising business, Ren married and moved to Kennebunkport, Maine. Ren was in the real estate business for many years, starting as a broker and becoming president of Long Pond Development Company in Ogunquit, M.E. His specialty became affordable and luxury multi-unit developments throughout the Northeast. Ren will always be remembered for his gracious and generous ways, his wonderful sense of humor, and his gentle, loving heart. He added great goodness to our lives, and we will miss him. Ren is survived by his sister, Sarah Walton; his former wife, Elisa Knapp Ceshker; and many dear friends, especially Rick Moore and Donna Thompson. A memorial to Ren’s life will be held at Donna Thompson’s home in Cape Porpoise, Maine on July 24th at 3:30 p.m. May the seas rise up to meet you and may the winds be at your back.

  1. I worked at AAA with ren for close to 6 years. In that time I got to know Ren and become friends. Ren reminded me alot of my dad that passed away prior to me working with him. Ren was a sweet caring and easy going person that never had a bad word to say about anyone. Ren encouraged me to keep pushing on and make myself a better person and look for better things in life. He gave me alot of advice as we took our lunch breaks together. He was smart funny and very helpful to everyone. My heart hurts as I just got this sad news. We all love you Ren and I hope you will save me a seat up in heaven so we can chat like old times when it’s my time to go. I pray the sickness is gone and you are back to your happy and loving self. Fly High my good friend ♡ Sending prayers for his family and friends. So sorry for your loss!!

  2. My family and I had the good fortune to know Ren, Jan and their parents. The latter of whom were very close to my parents in Larchmont, NY. In fact, they lived around the block from my parent’s home. Ren was everything and more that you write about him. He had such a mellow voice with a touch of mischief to it. I lost track of the many fun times I had with Ren back in our 20’s and 30’s. Each time we spoke by telephone in later decades was as we’d always been when socializing with our friends together.
I know I will see him again one day. Goodbye for now, dear friend.
