Raymond J. Cartwright

Portland- Raymond James Cartwright, 86, of Allen Ave died peacefully on Sunday, September 4, 2016 at Mercy Hospital following a brief illness. Raymond was born in Pawtucket, Rhode Island on October 31, 1929 the son of the late Frederick J. and Alice T. (Sullivan) Cartwright. He graduated from Deering High School in the class of 1947. After high school he enlisted and served in the United States Navy. Raymond worked as an inspector for the American Can Company in Portland, retiring after more than 37 years. In his spare time he enjoyed working with horses, owning several Sulky horses over his lifetime, and earning the nickname of Hoss. He enjoyed sports, especially baseball, football and basketball, western movies and ice skating. He was always willing to help others, even complete strangers, expecting nothing in return. Raymond is survived by two sisters Corinne A. Cartwright and June Ann Cartwright both of Portland. At Raymonds request all services will be private. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Portland, ME.
