Martha A. Wirth
December 4, 1927 ~ October 14, 2015
SCARBOROUGH - Martha Ann Wirth, 87, of Scarborough passed away on October 14th at Gosnell Memorial Hospice in Scarborough. Marty was born and raised in New Haven, CT. In High School, she met and fell in love with Walter (Buddy) Wirth. After High School, Buddy served in the US Army during WW II as a member of the Military Police while Marty earned her degree as a physical therapist. Upon completing his tour of duty he came home and married Marty. They started a family that quickly grew to four children starting out in Indiana, moving to Michigan, then to Boxford, MA and finally landing in Scarborough, Maine. As they were about to finish putting their fourth child through college, Buddy passed away unexpectedly. Martha persevered through that grief, went to work for Koch Fuels and was an amazing mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Martha was a warm and outgoing person that made people around her feel comfortable and loved. Several years ago Marty moved into Kailer-Vaill, a retirement home for women. We want to thank Debbie Temm, the staff and her fellow residents for all they did for Marty; they became her extended family. After retiring from Koch Fuels, Marty stayed active playing with her cherished bridge group, volunteering at Mercy Hospital as well as the Portland Head Light, and was a member of the Womens Literary Union. We were all blessed to have Marty as a part of our lives. She is survived by her four children: Katrina Maclachlan of Scarborough, Eric and Pam Wirth of Boone, NC, Kristin Wirth of Scarborough, and Theodore and Cathy Wirth of Yarmouth as well as five grand children and four great grandchildren. There will be a celebration of Martys life at the Black Point Inn on Friday, October 23rd from 4 to 6 pm. Arrangements are under the direction of Conroy-Tully Crawford Funeral Home, 172 State Street, Portland, ME. Marty….I can hear your laughter; see your smile; loved your wit and fun loving attitude. You were a dear friend to my mom, which I will always be grateful. So many fond memories. Heck, you even bought our house on Black Point Rd. So glad we had a chance to visit in August. Now, you are at rest….hugs to Kris, Trena, Ricky and Teddy at this difficult time. Say hi to my mom. Love you, Marty.
