Kathleen Carol Hoppel
November 12, 1939 ~ August 24, 2015
Mary Kathleen Carol Hoppel (Pidgeon), OR Nurse Cape Elizabeth-Kathleen passed away on Monday, August 24, 2015, at the age of 75. Kathleen was born and raised in Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada. After attending nursing school, Kathleens spunk and independence drove her to relocate to Los Angeles, California at a time when few young women moved very far from their families. In California, Kathleen worked as an operating room nurse at St. Vincents Hospital. Her intelligence, attention to detail and devotion to her work enabled her to excel in the demanding area of operative surgery. Growing up in Sherbrooke, Quebec, Kathleen spoke French and was fluent in English. Kathleen was very proud of her French Canadian and Irish heritage. Kathleen enjoyed daily crossword puzzles, Scrabble and had a love of books. Kathleen also enjoyed numerous construction projects throughout her life, first by building a brick patio with her husband in Yorba Linda, California by saving up extra money to make weekly brick purchases and more recently culminating with the successful renovation of her much loved home in Cape Elizabeth. Kathleen is survived by her husband of 47 years, Ronald William Hoppel, her daughter, Natalie Kathleen Hoppel, her brother, nephew, niece, many aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends. Kathleens passing leaves us with heartaches no one can heal; but our love for her leaves us with memories no one will ever steal. At the familys request all services will be private. Arrangements are under the direction of the Conroy-Tully Crawford Funeral Home, 172 State Street, Portland, ME.
