August 8, 1926 ~ January 4, 2014
MOBILE, ALABAMA - Ellis F. Dunn, born in Chicopee Falls, MA on August 8, 1926, died on Saturday, January 4, 2014 with his daughters at his side. His parents were Richard and Margaret Ellis Dunn. Ellis had two careers, foremost a retired Naval Chief having served 21 years, once stateside he taught at the Naval Survival School in the Rangeley Mountains. After many years he took on the responsibility as Vice President of Eastern Fire and Equipment. He was a life member of the VFW and the Elks. Navigating the waters from Casco Bay to the Gulf Shores of Alabama, he continued his love of the sea. Once his sea duty was over and he was transferred to shore duty he maintained several properties. He then bought an RV and traveled extensively. One thing that was always consistent was his love of gardening from which he learned from his mother. Watching things grow and flourish, he found peace. In his travels, Ellis was known by many names: EF; Mr. Ellis, Husband, Grandpa, even "Gangster" but most of all dad. He is survived by his lifelong best friend, and incidentally, his ex-wife, whom he cherished, Kathleen Dunn of Westbrook; three daughters, twins Colleen Van de Graaf and Kathleen Eaton of Portland and Linda Kittrell of Alabama. He was blessed with seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. "A boy's will is the wind's will. And the thought of youth are long, long thoughts."
