PORTLAND - Philip W. St. Jacques, 81, of Portland died Sunday Dec. 1, 2013 at St. Joseph's Residence and Rehabilitation. He was born in Brooklyn, New York on Dec. 29, 1931, a son of Edmund P. and Florence Skoien St. Jacques. He was educated in Brooklyn Schools and joined the U.S. Navy at age 17. On December 29, 1974 he married Margaret Ann Ricci in Portland, Maine. During the 1980's he worked in the engineering Department at Maine Medical Center, he then worked for Trane Co., retiring in 1996. Following his retirement we worked part time for Hannaford. Philip was a long time communicant of St. Joseph's Church, Our Lady of Hope Parish, attending Mass daily. He served as a Eucharistic Minister and Lector and was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, Bishop Proulx Council. In his spare time Philip enjoyed hunting and was a long time member of the Gray-New Gloucester Rod and Gun Club. He is survived by his wife Margaret (Ricci) St. Jacques of Portland and daughter Carolyn F. LaBrie of Virginia. Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Wednesday at Conroy-Tully Crawford Funeral Home, 172 State Street, Portland. Prayers will be recited at 9:15 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home followed by a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph's Church, Our Lady of Hope Parish, 673 Stevens Ave., Portland. Burial will follow in Brooklawn Cemetery.Online condolences may be expressed below.

  2. I am so terribly sorry to hear of Phil’s passing. What a wonderful man! I first met him at St. Joseph’s church, where a small group of us sang together in the contemporary song group. Phil always did the speaking role when we sang Hail Mary I will never hear or sing that song again without thinking of him. My husband and I send our deepest condolences to his amazing family.
