Margaret Ellen Majors Feeney

Margaret Ellen Majors Feeney passed away December 31, 2011 at Seaside Nursing and Retirement Home in Portland, Maine. She was born in Portland on May 5, 1912 to John Majors of Dexter, Missouri and Mary Agnes Feeney of Bohoona, Spiddal, County Galway, and grew up in the West End, attending St Dominic's Grammar School. Margaret graduated from Cathedral High School in 1931 and was Valedictorian of her class. In 1938 she married Martin J. Feeney of India Street, the brother of her close friend and schoolmate Eileen McDonough, and the newlyweds moved to Munjoy Hill where they lived the rest of their lives, purchasing the house at 38 Howard Street in 1940. Margaret was steadfast in her long-time regular attendance at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. Margaret Ellen insisted on a simple obituary, to list her descendants and survivors, who include her children Martin J. Feeney (Roberta Lockard) of Scarborough, John M. Feeney (Joan McSweeney) of Scituate MA, James D. Feeney (Ilona Bertalan) of Gorham, Margaret M. LaCombe (Michael LaCombe) of Augusta, Daniel J. Feeney (Mary Frances Adamson) of Portland. She is also survived by grandchildren Michael Feeney, Karin Feeney-Cass, Darren and Colin Feeney, Nicole Tiernan, Caitlin and Casey Carbonneau, Eric and Lindsey Feeney and Chelsea Foley. Great-grandchildren are Moira Feeney, Bram Cass, and Jack and Stella Tiernan, Margaret is also survived by a sister Catherine Majors Hall in Syracuse, New York. Predeceasing Margaret were her husband Martin J. Feeney in 1969, her parents, and her siblings John Edward Majors in 1917, Mary Majors Olson in 2011, Thomas Majors in 1915, Emma Madeline Majors Olson in 2010, Joseph Majors in 2010, and Edward J. Majors in 1991. In addition she leaves many nieces and nephews who called her Aunt Marnie, and great-nieces and great-nephews and cousins. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 4, from 9:00 - 10:30 a.m. at the Conroy-Tully Crawford Funeral Home, 172 State Street, Portland. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 307 Congress Street, Portland. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
