FALMOUTH - Barbara Ann Devlin, 82, of Falmouth, died peacefully September 30, 2011, in Falmouth, with her loving family by her side. She was born November 18, 1928 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, a daughter of Charles P. and Annie E. (Blaine) Callan. She was educated in local parochial schools and was a 1946 graduate of St. John the Evangelist High School in North Cambridge, MA. She was a 1950 graduate of Boston University where she graduated summa cum laude from the College of Practical Arts and Letters. Barbara married James A. Devlin on January 30, 1965, and began raising her family. They resided in New York City, Washington, DC, and Minneapolis before ultimately settling in Falmouth. During her career, Barbara worked as Administrative Assistant for Curtis Publishing Company/Holiday Magazine in Boston for 16 years. She was a former member of The College Club of Boston, College Club of Portland, Women's Literary Union of Portland, and the Irish Heritage Club, and was a former president of Holy Martyrs Parish Council. Through the years, Barbara treasured her frequent reunions with her lifelong friends from St. John's High School and Boston University. Her family and friends will always remember her great generosity, hospitality, attention to detail, sincere and caring manner, and devotion to her family, as well as her beautiful handwriting, warm smile, love of reading, and wonderful home cooking. Barbara was predeceased by her husband James in 1992; and by her parents, sister, Ruth M. Scala, and brothers, Edward B. Callan and Charles Callan. She is survived by her daughter, Ann Bayer and her husband Richard of Falmouth; her son, Matthew Devlin and his wife Janet of Austin, Texas; and her four grandchildren whom she adored, Brendan and Mary Katherine Bayer, and Patrick and Andrew Devlin. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on 11:00 am, Wednesday, October 5, at Holy Martyrs Church, 266 Foreside Road, Falmouth. Private burial will take place at Mt. Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge, Massachusetts. Arrangements are by Conroy-Tully Crawford Funeral Home, 172 State Street, Portland.
