Peaks Island- Sally Anne Stewart, 62, of Tuftonboro, New Hampshire and Peaks Island, Maine died unexpectedly on Monday, March 12, 2018, at the Maine Medical Center following a brief illness. She graduated from Catherine McAuley High School in the class of 1974 and from the University of Maine, Orono with a Bachelors Degree in Education in the class of 1978. Sally began her teaching career in September of 1978, at the Kingswood Regional Middle School in Wolfeboro, NH, a career which has spanned forty years. Sally was planning on retiring at the end of the school year. Her love of children and education has lead Sally to touch the lives of many young students over the past forty years. When school was in session you could always find Sally volunteering or helping out on student functions or extra-curricular activities. When not in school, you would find Sally at her beloved Peaks Island where she loved spending summers, walking, sitting on the beach, reading a good book or spending time surrounded by her family especially her two granddaughters, who were the light of her life. She was a longtime communicant of St. Christopher's Church on the island and attended Mass for many years at St. Dominic's and in Wolfeboro, NH. Sally will long be remembered as warm hearted, welcoming, caring, giving, and a great friend to others. Sally is survived by her husband, Wilson W. Stewart of Peaks Island and Tuftonboro, NH; two sons, Michael P. and his wife Michelle Stewart of South Portland, and William A. and his wife Ashley Stewart of FL; three brothers, Peter and his wife Suzanne Joyce of NC, Michael Joyce of Peaks Island, and Dennis Joyce of Portland; two granddaughters, Riley and Emery Stewart of FL; several nieces and nephews. 2. Mrs. Stewart was a great math teacher.I never really liked math until I was in her class. She taught me to love math ! She was so much fun I joined a backgammon club many years ago and played against her and won. She was so funny and laughed and tole me “you are not supposed to beat your math teacher.” I was very quiet way back when in junior high and she helped me to come out of my shell. Thank you for your dedication and love of your students! The world lost an educator and friend. My condolescences to the family.

  22. Wilson and Family –

It’s so true that words can’t express the sadness and shock those of us who love Sally are feeling right now. It’s also hard to explain how much we all want to share your loss to help us deal with it. We are better for knowing her and that will survive. Down the road we will see her smiling face again, tell her that we missed her, wonder what she’s been up to, and hug.
