Portland - Helen Danilewicz, 91, died on Wednesday, April 4, 2018. Helen was born in Hartford, CT on June 5, 1926, a daughter of the John and Veronica (Barkowsky) Danilewicz. Helen grew up in Connecticut for a few years, moving to Lincoln, Maine and finally to Portland, Maine. She graduated from Portland High School in the class of 1944. After graduation, she worked at the Telephone Company as the Finance Supervisor until her retirement. Helen constantly received the annual award for perfect attendance while at the telephone company. In her spare time, she also worked at Jordan march for a while. She also received awards and citations for her volunteer work with the Red Cross, Telephone Pioneers of America, and Susan Curtis Foundation. Helen was a communicant of St. Louis Church. She was one of the original members of the Women's Society, which was established in 1952. She participated in many church activities her entire life. Her hobbies included collecting cookbooks, sharing old family photographs, playing the slots at Foxwoods, bingo games and sharing stories among family members. She was also a cross county skier, enjoyed going to breakfast with friends, cruises, and trips to Cape Cod. She was predeceased by two sisters, Edna Grzyb and Wanda Dylewski; two brothers, Edward Danilewicz and Stanley Danilewicz. She is survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins who will miss her. A Memorial Mass in her honor will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, June 9, 2018, at St. Louis Catholic Church, 279 Danforth Street, Portland, with Rev. Kyle Doustou celebrating the Mass. Graveside prayers will immediately follow the Mass at Old Calvary Cemetery. A Luncheon Celebration honoring Helen's life will be held at noon at 115 Blackstrap Road, Falmouth.   1. I worked with Helen for many years in the Accounting department of the Telephone Company at 562 Congress Street and 5 Davis Farm Road in Portland, Maine. We both belonged to “R.A.G.U.”, a small group that went out to dinner once a month after work. After we both retired, we continued those monthly adventures with 3 of our friends; as well as having breakfast once a month in Portland with a group of ‘Telephone girls’. I have missed seeing Helen for about a year now; she stopped coming to breakfast after Stanley died. I hope she was still saving those “Telephone TOPICS” magazines for me.
    Please let me know if you want me to pick them up. My condolences to Helen’s family. I’m sure she was a terrific aunt.
