Deborah Lyons Beach

August 15, 1931 ~ June 21, 2018
Bangor - Deborah Noel Beach passed away peacefully Thursday afternoon, June 21, 2018, at Maine Medical Center in Portland. She was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, August 15,1931.
Debbie was proud of her Boston heritage as she was raised in Newton, MA, together with her four siblings near Lasell College from which she was a graduate. She then enjoyed many years as a flight attendant for NorthEast Airlines until she met her husband, Paul Maynard Beach, Jr. by the fireplace at the ski lodge at Stowe, Mountain, in Vermont.
She knew at first sight that Maynard was her one and only true love and soulmate whom she cherished until her own passing. She remained faithful to her husband as she supported him as he attended medical school and many years of training until he discovered his true passion for surgery. She ultimately followed him to Bangor where they settled and she continued to support her husband's career and raise their family. Knowing she would be joining Maynard, her parents, two brothers and sister in heaven gave her comfort in the end.
The people that knew her would agree, Debbie was a woman of rare character, temperament and curiosity. A passionate student of the world, she was always ready with a challenging inquiry about some current event or historical remnant. As a mother, she was amazingly selfless and taught her children the true gift of compassion, love and devotion. Debbie truly marched to the "beat of her own drum" and never backed down from a challenge but engaged life with a smile, laugh, constant inquisitiveness and every once in a while, a stern admonishment about proper etiquette. She could always be counted on to find something interesting in what others overlooked.
Debbie was predeceased by her husband, Maynard and her three siblings Ann Lyons, Kevin Lyons and Douglas Lyons. She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Noel Fitzpatrick and her husband, Douglas Fitzpatrick of Charlotte, North Carolina, Rebecca Hutchins MacLeod and her husband, Jim MacLeod of Yarmouth, Maine, and Paul Maynard Beach of Oakland, California and her sister Jean Chandler. She also leaves behind five adoring grandchildren, Caroline, Katherine, Rachel, Alexandra and Zoe, her "Little Women" who loved her as "Nanna D". Debbie had a unique bond with each of her grandchildren and in her own special way, forged a relationship they will continue to treasure in their living memories.
A memorial reception will be held at 2 p.m. Friday June 29, 2018 at the Avalon Village Manor House, 50 Foxglove Drive, Hampden, Maine 04401.
