Peaks Island - Walter "Walt" S. Semon, Jr., 64, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, July 23, 2018. Born in Brooklyn, NY, Walt was the son of the late Walter and Elizabeth (Handy) Semon. He honorably served his country in the United States Navy from 1972-1976, being stationed primarily in Norfolk, VA. He married the love of his life, Susan Richardson on June 3, 1988. Together, Walt and Susan made their home on Peaks Island where they enjoyed 30 years of marriage. For the last 25 years, Walt worked for the City of Portland with Island Services and as a Call Man on the fire department. He was recently questioned when Walt submitted his retirement paperwork. Being the type of man he is he didn't want to let anyone down, Walt redacted his retirement request, further committing himself to continue his service to the residents and community of the island. Walt can best be described as an all-around good man. For 15 years he played Santa on Peaks for all of the children. After he saw all of the children, he would don his Santa outfit and visit the elderly on Christmas Eve delivering cookies and treats. Walt will always be remembered as a loving, caring, respected and stubborn man. He was a very hard worker who passed that trait down to his children. He loved his boys immensely, always hugging and kissing them as they grew up. He was so happy when his grandchildren were born, and loved being a Grampy. Walt was someone that everybody looked up to. Walt is survived by his wife Susan of Peaks Island; sons, Jeramy and his son Griffen of Cape Elizabeth, Jamie and his wife Amy and their two sons James and Logan of Peaks Island and his son Joshua and his children Conner and Kennzie of Dallas Town, PA. A Celebration of Walt's remarkable life will be held on Saturday, July 28 from 1-3PM at the Brackett Memorial United Methodist Church, 3 Church Avenue, Peaks Island. Arrangements are under the direction of the Conroy-Tully Walker Funeral Home of Portland. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Maine Veterans' Home by visiting www.MaineVets.org
