1935-2022
PORTLAND--Marilyn A. Levesque, 86, of Portland, died Friday March 11 at her daughter's home in Gray surrounded by her family.
She was born September 2, 1935 in Berlin, New Hampshire the daughter of George, Sr. and Kathleen (Jones) Beesley. She was a 1954 graduate of Cathedral High School. She raised her six children while working two jobs to provide for her family. Her strong work ethic has been instilled in her children and will be part of her legacy. She was filled with so much energy, always needing to be busy by popping in to visit her children or grandchildren or just going for a drive with friends. She enjoyed reading, listening to the oldies station, crocheting her famous dish clothes, knitting, cross stitch and gardening. She also enjoyed going out to eat with her girlfriends and attending craft shows and buying and selling antiques.
Marilyn worked for Blue Cross Blue Shield for 21 years, retiring in 1997 from the Membership and Billing Department. After retirement, Marilyn volunteered at Maine Medical Center, the Southern Maine Agency on Aging and at the Fort Williams Gift Shop. As part of her volunteer work, she took pride in knitting hats for babies and donating them to hospitals. Her greatest joy was in spending time with her children and grandchildren, especially at Christmas where the entire family would gather, eat her lasagna, play Yankee Swap and watch the matriarch of the family open presents. She was an extraordinary woman and will be greatly missed.
Marilyn was predeceased by her son, Paul Levesque, her daughter-in-law, Sharon Levesque and her brother, George Beesley, Jr.
She is survived by her children, Francine Brown and her husband Brian of Gray, R. Peter Levesque and his wife Nancy of Saco, Craig Levesque of Standish, Roger Levesque and his wife Jeri of Portland, John Levesque and his companion Ina Quattrucci of Naples, and Michele Cantara and her husband Chris of Cape Elizabeth; her grandchildren, Lori and Christopher Brown, Sean Levesque, Chelsea Collupy, Sara Coyne, Sydney Levesque, , Andrew Nelson and John Philip Nelson and her seven great-grandchildren with three on the way.
Visiting hours will be Thursday March 17 from 4:00 to 6:00 pm at the Conroy-Tully Walker Funeral Home, 172 State Street, Portland. A memorial service will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.

It is with saddness that I learned of Marilyn’s recent death. She was a classmate at Cathedral High School. After graduation she was active planning many reunions and kept in contact with many of us. I would always enjoy calling on her in her home and seeing all of the crafts she was doing. She had a big heart and always a hard worker. I will think and pray for her often. Marie Mason McCann My condolences to the family.

Marilyn was our dear friend and neighbor for 19 years. She was kind hearted with a zest for life and everything lovely around her including her flower garden, her two cats and her home where she took great pride and energy with. We shared seasonal ideas for our yards, family stories, and new knitting projects to work on during long winters. I am a stronger woman because of Marilyn and will miss her dearly. My warmest condolences to her family during this time.
