As we mark the fifth anniversary for Conroy-Tully Walker, it’s important to reflect upon the decades of history when our funeral home operated as Conroy-Tully, serving the families of Greater Portland in their times of need.
I’m honored that the Crawford family entrusted us as the next generation to oversee the Conroy-Tully legacy and grateful to have the support of the Tully family. Having the guidance and mentorship of the former owners has been a wonderful blessing these past five years. It’s a great privilege to carry on the legacy of Conroy-Tully; a responsibility we don’t take lightly.
Over the last five years, it has become very clear to us that Greater Portland is a special place; it’s a close community with family ties and friendships going back generations. Caitlin and I are very fortunate to have been welcomed into this community with open arms. As a couple, we’ve celebrated momentous events here in Portland. We were married at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in 2016 and welcomed our daughter, Eleanor Rosemary, at Mercy Fore River in February.
The community has given us an immense amount of support and our hearts are filled with gratitude. We enjoy giving back through volunteering, hosting community events, and providing donations to several great organizations. We continued the Conroy-Tully traditions of the Candlelight Service of Remembrance and the Memorial Day Mass, and have established our own traditions that we hope will last long into the future: the Annual First Responders’ Appreciation Cookout, the school supply drive, and the Memorial Day essay contest for local high schoolers.
As we’ve built our lives here and become involved in the community, we’ve also built many wonderful friendships. I’ll be honest, though - one of the most difficult parts of owning a funeral home in a tight-knit community is that with time, we've come to have the unfortunate privilege of having to bury our friends. We’ve had to witness the indescribable heartache of our close friends having to say goodbye to family members and loved ones.
Each of the approximately 1500 families that have come to us over the last five years has had its own story, own needs, and own way of mourning. No two lives are the same and we believe that every life should be celebrated for its unique legacy and impact. Our staff is critical in ensuring that we are able to provide that level of service. We have an incredible team of conscientious and caring professionals, who work hard every day to ensure families are getting the personal attention they deserve. We wouldn't be able to serve the community without every staff member’s caring support.
To our staff, to the community, to the families who have come before as owners and operators of Conroy-Tully, we say thank you. Caitlin and I love this community and we will be here to serve you for years to come.
