SCARBOROUGH - Phyllis Jean Maier, 87, of Deerwood Street, died Monday, February 3, 2014 at Maine Medical Center with her loving family by her side. She was born in Norfolk, Virginia on July 25, 1926, the daughter of Arthur and Eleanor McCoy Beattie. Phyllis was raised in Bronx, New York and graduated from high school there. Phyllis married Raymond R. Maier in Bronx, New York on March 7, 1944. She worked for ten years as a telephone operator and receptionist for the Peter Frasse Company from 1974 to 1984. In 1985 she and Raymond retired and moved to Maine. In her spare time she enjoyed playing the piano, cooking, knitting and crocheting baby sweaters, crossword puzzles and painting. Her greatest love, however, was spent surrounded by husband and loving family. She was predeceased by a son William Ralph Maier in 1966. She is survived by her husband of almost seventy years Raymond R. Maier; a daughter Cynthia Rose Maier of Westbrook; three sons Raymond A. and his wife Theresa Maier of South Carolina, James R. and his wife Georgia Maier of North Carolina and David J. and his wife Kesley of Windham; a sister Beatrice Peluso of New York; seven grandchildren Laura and her husband Keith Kaim, Rebecca and her husband Harold McCulloch, Robert and his wife Tracey Maier, Trish Maier, Jay Tubbs, Amanda Tubbs and her fianc(c) Jared Lemieux, Emily Maier; seven great grandchildren Zachery and Alex Kaim, Ashley, Marcus and Reese McCulloch, Alysha Maier and Erin Vandine; several nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held at Conroy-Tully Crawford South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway on Sunday, February 9, 2014 from 12:00 noon to 1:00pm followed by a service at 1:00pm at the funeral home.
