Hollis-Philip A. Mac Vane Jr., 87, of Deerwander Road, died Thursday, February 23, 2017, at Maine Medical Center. He was born in Portland on September 26, 1929, a son of Philip A. Sr. and Mary (Rowe) Mac Vane. He was a graduate of Deering High School. He married Rosalind McAvoy on February 27, 1954, at Sacred Heart Church in Portland. He served in the United States Navy as Seabee. Philip was a Captain on the Portland Fire Department with Engine 11 at the Ocean Avenue fire house. Following retirement from the fire department he worked as a maintenance man for Central Maine Power Company. He also worked as a house painter in the greater Portland area. He was an avid fisherman and gardener. He also enjoyed camping, sports, and was an accomplished water color artist. He is remembered as a happy man who cherished time with his family. He is predeceased by two brothers, Merle Mac Vane and Dwight Mac Vane Sr. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Rosalind; two sons, Michael P. Mac Vane and wife Raymond of St. Stevens, New Brunswick, Canada, and Gerard Jerry Mac Vane and wife Alice of Leeds; a sister, Barbara Burdwood of Westbrook; a brother, John Mac Vane of Gorham; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Visiting hours will be 4:00-7:00 PM, Monday, at Conroy-Tully Walker South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. A graveside service will be held 11:00 AM, Tuesday, at New Calvary Cemetery, 1461 Broadway, South Portland.
