PORTLAND - Mary Margaret McDonough, 87, of Portland, died Sunday, February 5, 2012 at Mercy Hospital. She was born on April 16, 1924, in Portland, a daughter of John J. and Annie E. Burke O'Toole.Mary attended parochial schools and was a 1941 graduate of Cathedral High School. She attended Northeast Business College. In 1942 Mary accepted a position with New York Life. She worked for New York Life until 1984, retiring as the assistant office manager. She was a longtime communicant of St. Patrick's Church. Mary had a lifelong devotion to St. Theresa (The Little Flower), The Miraculous Medal and was a member of the St. Patrick's Women's Council. Mary loved her cottage on Peaks Island where she summered since 1958. She will be missed by her many friends there. She married Bernard J. "Barney" McDonough in 1987. She was predeceased by her husband in 1995 and a cousin Harold Goucher who was raised by her parents. Survivors include a sister, Elizabeth A. Pratt of South Portland; a step-daughter, Kimberly Mowatt of Limington; a stepson, Kevin McDonough and his wife Judy of Standish; niece, Sharon Wakefield and her husband Raymond of Portland, her cousin, Raymond Goucher, (whom she thought of as a brother) and many nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday February 9, 2012 at Conroy-Tully Crawford Funeral Home, 172 State Street, Portland. Prayers will be recited 9:15 a.m. Friday at the funeral home followed by a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick's Church, 1342 Congress Street, Portland.
