PORTLAND Mr. Joseph L. Foley, Sr., 85, died Friday, September 11, 2015 at his home surrounded by his family. Born in Portland, Joe was the son of the late Philip and Annie (Conley) Foley. He was a graduate of Portland High School, Class of 1947. Following high school, Joe honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. For nearly 30 years, Joe was a bricklayer with Local 2, and a boilermaker for Local 29. An avid sports fan, Joe enjoyed Notre Dame Football, the Red Sox, Patriots and Celtics. He was a member of the VFW Deering Memorial Post #6859, and the American Legion Paul Mallia Post #161. Above all else, Joe was a quiet, reserved and hardworking man who was proud of his Irish Heritage and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. In addition to his parents, Joe was predeceased by his beloved wife of 34 years, Gertrude (Clarke) Foley, son, Michael Foley, and brothers, Bartley, Martin and James Foley. He is survived by his children, Lisa Foley of Portland, Joseph Foley, Jr. and wife Heather of Cordova, TN, James Foley of Portland and Ann Foley and husband Richard Ayoob of Saco. Also survived by sisters, Mary Foley of Portland, Barbara Clark of GA; brothers, Philip Foley, Peter Foley and wife Lenora, and John Foley all of Portland; 13 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Visiting Hours will be held on Thursday from 4-7PM at Conroy-Tully Crawford Funeral Home, 172 State Street, Portland. Prayers will be recited at the Funeral Home on Friday at 9:15AM followed by a 10AM Mass of Christian Burial at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 307 Congress St, Portland.
