Portland James L. Woodbury, 91, of Kittery and Long Island, ME, peacefully passed away Friday, January 13, 2017, at Maine Medical Center. James was born Valentines Day 1925, on Long Island, ME. He was the son of Joseph and Edith (Pettengill) Woodbury. In his later years he enjoyed his elite status as a true island native. After graduating from Portland High School in 1942, James entered the United States Navy, serving in both WWII and the Korean War, and achieving the rank MM2. Upon returning home, James became a Charter Member of the VFW Post 9605 on Long island. He met and married Dorothea Train and they moved to Kittery, where they raised their family, and returned to enjoy summers on Long Island. James worked for the Public Service as a Power Plant Operator and later retired from the Portsmouth Housing Authority, where he was a Maintenance Mechanic. He was predeceased by his wife of 51 years, Dorothea (Train) Woodbury and his young daughter, Dianne L. Woodbury. James is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Michael Brown of Rollinsford, NH; his beloved granddaughter, Dianne Brown of Arlington, MA; and his brother, John Woodbury of South Portland. Arrangements are under the direction of the Conroy-Tully Walker Funeral Home, 172 State Street, Portland, proudly serving Veterans of the Greater Portland area.
