Evelyn V. Kiernan, 98, of South Portland, died peacefully, December 7, 2012 at the Barron Center, with her loving family by her side. She was born February 20, 1914 in Fort Fairfield, the daughter of Fred and Ruth (Clark) Fields. Evelyn graduated from Lewiston High School in 1932 and attended Gray's Business College in Portland. She was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church. Evelyn was employed in different offices in Portland and in the South Portland shipyard office until her marriage to Joseph K. Kiernan in 1944. She then travelled and started her family with her husband who was in the military during WWII. She returned to South Portland while her husband was overseas. They resided in South Portland for over 68 years. In her later years, Evelyn worked as a Foster Grandmother for 16 years. In 1985 Governor Brennan presented her an award for being an outstanding Volunteer of special needs children. Evelyn was a member of the Apostleship of Creed and a member of St. John the Evangelist Church Women's Council. Evelyn was predeceased by her parents. Surviving are her daughters, Ruth Michaud and her husband Richard of Auburn and Anne Marie Lemelin and her husband Michael of Scarborough, four grandchildren, Robert, Michael, Sherri, and Joseph; and seven great grandchildren, Steven, Morgan, Alex, Max, Nicolas, Cameron, and Caylee. Visiting hours will be held from 2:00 - 4:00 pm and 6:00 - 8:00 pm on Sunday, at Conroy-Tully Crawford South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. Prayers will be recited 9:15 am, at the chapel, followed by a 10:00 am Mass of Christian Burial at St. John the Evangelist Church, Maine Street, South Portland.
