SOUTH PORTLAND - Dorothea A. Millington, 79, of South Portland, passed on October 12, 2012, with family members by her side. Dorothea was born in Portland April 13, 1933, the daughter of Patrick and Gertrude Flaherty Feeney. She attended Cathedral School and St. Joseph's Academy in Portland and graduated from Jesu High School in Miami, Florida. Dot was a true Mainer loving everything about this state. She was a spiritual person and taught religion classes and sang with the Saint Rose of Lima choir in Northboro Mass. She was an anonymous writer for a local newspaper for many years under the pseudonym of "Casper" covering local issues. Dot campaigned for the Democratic Party including Ted Kennedy. She was a communicant of Holy Cross Church in South Portland. Dot would describe herself as "A devote Catholic, Irish Democrat, and in that order". Her children saw her as an amazing, faithful, compassionate and loving mother. Her family was the foundation of her life. She took extra care of friends and neighbors and was non-judgmental and caring for everyone she came in contact with. At 16, she met the love of her life, Richard J. Millington. Four years later they were married on June 13, 1953, at St. Patrick's Church. They enjoyed 53 years together. They began their family and lived in Massachusetts returning to Maine in 1972. Dot and Dick enjoyed creating many years of memories. Going to the beach, annual trips to Peaks Island, and numerous family gatherings. "Mim's", as the grandkids called her, loved having her "chickies" visit her and treating them to special meals, green handshakes and warm loving hugs and kisses. Christmas was always a joyous occasion with the grandchildren enjoying their BIG brown bags of gifts. Dot loved the outdoors, gardening, long walks on the beach, reading and writing. She absolutely loved being a wife and mother. Dot was a homemaker for many years. Once her children were raised she worked as the Executive Secretary for the South Portland City Manager and retired from there. Dorothea was predeceased by her parents; her beloved husband in 2006; and a sister, Jeanne Volent. She is survived by daughters, Deborah Millington-Watts and her husband Robert of Scarborough, Donna Millington Noel of Gray, Dorothea Mary Orlando and her husband Henry of South Portland, Marytracey Jensen and her husband Alan of New Gloucester; sons, Patrick Richard Millington of Windham, P. Christopher Millington and his wife Jeanne of Portland; eleven grandchildren, Ashley and Benjamin Watts, Tucker Cianchette, Jennifer Arnold, Tricia Metivier, Douglas Millington, Jordan Millington, Matthew and Angela Orlando, and Michael and Felicia Lyons; six great-grandchildren, Rocco and Leo Cianchette, Jack Arnold, Lola Metivier, Colby Ross and Cameron Rideout; a brother, Richard P. Feeney, Tucson, Arizona; and a sister, Anne Murphy of Scarborough. The family would like to thank the many years of care from Dr. Daniel Loiselle of Intermed, along with Dr. Barbara Steinbrecher,and the staff and nursing care she received at Sedgwood Commons in Falmouth, Maine Visiting hours will be held on Monday from 4-6 p.m., at the Conroy-Tully Crawford South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. Prayers will be recited at 10:15 a.m., Tuesday at the Chapel, followed by an 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Cross Church, corner of Broadway and Cottage Road, South Portland.
